A CroOZza Cache of Quality (Pt. 1)

CroOZza is the name of a (very) frequent contributor of music here on The Baboon. The guy just sends packs and packs of links with fresh metal bands. Of course we greatly appreciate his efforts and keep on posting his stuff. Hell yeah! Today we’ll do a little CroOZza tribute pack by giving you only bands that he contributed. So, given the fact that CroOZza’s “droppings” are always of exceptional musical quality, you’re in for a treat!

And you know what else is good? We’ll do another pack just like this tomorrow! But today we’ll serve you some Human Ground (Estonia), some 2nd Suicide (Finland) and finally some Mytra (Hungary) for desert.

Human Ground – Evening

A bunch of Tallinn, which makes them the first on The Baboon from Estonia. Human Ground are producers of some progressive and melodic Death Metal. If progressive means that they make stuff that’s original and fresh, then they are indeed very progressive. Evening is a track found on their 2005 self-titled debut release.

What you get is saddened, but clean, male singing and some very “unclean” female vocals. Riff-based music with nicely phrased guitar solo near the end. But most importantly, the product of significant insight into how to make exceptionally good music. This song had me hooked before I heard 10 seconds of it. Not because it’s so technical or fast, but because it has some amazing atmosphere, great emotion, something very addicting.

I just wonder what that lady’s normal speaking voice is like.

2nd Suicide – Garden of Stone

When this next one starts off you’ll be thinking “ah metalcore”. But then it isn’t, it’s melodeath. Just shows how thin the line between the two actually is. Anyway, the song is called Garden of Stone and is played by a bunch of Finnish geezers called 2nd Suicide. You’ll have to focus on this one, because it’s damn short and over before you can say “dog’s faeces”.

Anyway, it’s melodeath, so that means melodic lead guitars in abundance driving the song. It’s found on a 2008 two-song single called Epitaph for the Proud. Would suggest that they’re working on an actual album, which would be their first since they started in 2004, but nope. However, in September they will hit the studio to record another demo, featuring at least three tracks, which, according to them, “will tear you apart”.

Mytra – Copernicus

If you want it weird, Mytra will give it to you weird… but exceptionally cool! I mentioned “progressive” as a sign of originality and freshness under Human Ground above. Well, if Human Ground are very progressive – and they really are – then these guys must be near the summum of progressiveness. It’s a pity the term Cyber Metal is already in use for drum ‘n bass type grindcore crap, because it much better fits this stuff!

Anyway, if you listen to this, give it at least two or three spins. During the first you’ll be like “right…”. The second spin will have you all “right” and then the third will finally make you get it “RIGHT!”. You’ll find this song on their 2009 Sagittarius demo, which is available for free download on the band’s website, under the “MP3″ tab.
