Blotted Science

Mon, 02/01/2012

Great. I just vomited on my keyboard. Big fuckin’ chunks of breakfast soggy under my fingers as I type this. The reason? Blotted Science! Or well, the pieces of movie they used to score their music to, specifically the bit taken from the 2006 horror flick Slither.

Blotted Science is a San Antonio Texas based instrumental Progressive Metal outfit active since 2004. If you’ve been about on Metal blogs here and there, the name should ring a bell. The band is not only well known for its freakier than fuck tunes, but also consists of three musically experienced and appraised musicians: guitarist Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Terrestrial Exiled, Spastic Ink), bassis Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal) and drummer Hannes Grossmann (Obscura, Terrestrial Exiled).

Returning We Hear the Larks

Sun, 18/09/2011

Anyone up for some Djenty stuff? We’ve got a one-man band that creates some mighty interesting stuff of the stuff. Normally CroOZza would cover this type of shit in his One Man Show series, but today, thanks to Rufio’s suggestion, I’ll cover it myself. ‘Cause I’m just that sneaky.

Anyfuck, the one man band in question is called Returning We Hear the Larks, and it’s the project of UK student Jak Noble. Apparently he took the name of his project from a poem by Isaac Rosenberg. The guy himself is a self-proclaimed multi-instrumentalist, ”although primarily a 7-string guitarist and sitarist”. You know, a sitar. That’s that odd looking guitar thing they use in India.

He’s also very generous, as he offers some of his releases for free (and others for little) on his Bandcamp page, so that means free fuckin’ music chaps – though you really oughta give him a couple of coins for it! We’ll sort you out with the link at the end of this post.

Drudkh – Only The Wind Remembers My Name

Wed, 06/07/2011

Just a quick one for you, to turn you all onto a lovely instrumental piece which has been kicking around my CD collection for a while. The band are new to DMB but hardly new to the scene, and they are a Ukrainian pagan black metal band by the name of Drudkh.

N.B. No pic for this one, guys, the band are THAT elusive and mysterious!

Greek Shredding

Thu, 14/10/2010

Some who know me, know that I’m a total shredaholic. Nothing, except sex, perhaps, makes me happier than a good piece of shredding. Gets me all fired up and shit. For this post you better like shredding too, as it’s stuffed with it. And not just any shredding, but Greek shredding! Following the first artist, who happened to be Greek, I stumbled upon more Greeks with quick nimble fingers. Three makes a post usually, so I cut it off there, but I could have added a shitload more.

We serve Ioannis Anastassakis, Gus Drax and Bob Katsionis today. And they get louder/more metal in that order. The first is probably best described as solid progressive Rock, but the other two clearly move into the realm of metal. BUT! It’s not all guitar shredding today, as Bob Katsionis is a master at shredding on something else!

Firewind’s Gus G Showing Off

Thu, 19/08/2010

Speeeeeeed metal from Greece! Firewind’s Gus G (also know from playing in Nightrage and Ozzy Osbourne’s band to name just two) is quite the expert on guitar. Here’s an awesome instrumental track, complete with video. That’s a whole lot of awesome packed into just six minutes I’ll tell you that!

Periphery – The Walk

Sat, 31/07/2010

I consider it an act of evil that I had not yet discovered this band, despite the fact that I posted a cover of one of their songs earlier, by Cataclysmichael. These Americans make an awesome piece of freaked, syncopatic progressive Death. The Walk is a nice piece of instrumental music. I bet you’ll want to press the “replay” button.

Thanks, again, to CroOZza!

Iced Earth – 1776

Sun, 04/07/2010

Today is Independence Day here in America so I’m serving up Iced Earth’s instrumental 1776, named for the year we declared independance. If you’re not already familiar with Iced Earth they’ve been active since 1985 and make thrash edged power metal and love to do concept albums, which they do very, very well.
