Blotted Science – Synaptic Plasticity

Fri, 21/05/2010

It’s been a long time since is stuck one into the “insane instrumentals” category. Thanks to Zodiac that time is now over though, because he contributed Blotted Science, a San Antonio, Texas based technical, progressive metal band that plays purely instrumental. Synaptic Plasticity is found on their one and only (so far) album The Machinations of Dementia.

Iron Sphere – Shadow Dance

Wed, 07/04/2010

Need a break from all the screaming, grunting, growling and other vocal noises? I’ll throw out an instrumental one. Iron Sphere is Finnish and it plays something close to neoclassical melodic power metal. This track is called Shadow Dance.

Buckethead – The Android of Notre Dame

Sun, 04/04/2010

I’ve already posted Pantera a while back and the other day I put up some Damageplan. As you all probably know Dimebag Darrell, guitarist in both bands got shot a few years ago. In response to that, American guitar virtuoso Buckethead, armed with a guitar, a mask and a KFC bucket on his head wrote a song called Dime in tribute to the man. That same song was later released on his album Kaleidoscalp under the name The Android of Notre Dame. Extravagant, but cool!

Thanks Kebabhasse!

Kataklysm – The Last Effort (Renaissance II)

Tue, 09/03/2010

Visitor kebabhasse pointed me towards this greath instrumental track by Canadian Death Metal group Kataklysm. It’s called The Last Effort (Renaissance II) and can be found on their 2008 Prevail album.

Apocalyptica – Hope

Tue, 19/01/2010

I already gave you some Apocalyptica yesterday. I’ve been listening to some of their stuff myself and figured it’d be nice to share this live performance with you as well. Gives you a better view on what these lads are actually doing. This is called Hope.

Apocalyptica – Somewhere Around Nothing

Mon, 18/01/2010

I’ll bet you’ll be sure to hear guitars in this track. You’re wrong! There’s only two types of instruments you hear: drums and cellos. Four of them. And still it’s unambiguously metal. Listen to a beautiful piece of music called Somewhere Around Nothing.

Omnium Gatherum – Song for December

Mon, 04/01/2010

I know I have already posted a few songs by Finland’s Omnium Gatherum. That’s just because they’re great. Today I have a very beautiful, mellow instrumental song for you. It seems to end rather abruptly, but that’s just because it transgresses seemlessly into the album’s next track. Just listen to Song for December.

Joe Satriani – Devil’s Slide

Thu, 31/12/2009

No, this isn’t actually death metal. But it is definately Godly! I’ve seen Joe Satriani live twice, second time front row and this man’s soloing is absolutely incredible! And luckily he does a lot of it! This is one of my personal favorites, from the DVD Live in San Francisco, called Devil’s Slide.

Nightrage – Sting of Remorse

Sat, 05/12/2009

We’ve seen Nightrage before on this blog. Their latest album contains a lovely instrumental called Sting of Remorse. Starts off with crafty acoustic melodies and works towards a solo of epic proportions. Beautiful! Go read/watch!
