You may remember how we reviewed Arkan’s 2011 Salam album in late June. It induced a comment by Kilik2049, who knows singer Sarah of the band personally. A couple of emails back and forth and it was arranged: a short interview with her about the band and about the last album. Took a while before we actually had the interview though, but we’re happy to report about our findings now! Many thanks to Sarah for answering our questions!

Blood Covenant are an Armenian Symphonic Black Metal band who are on the scene for quite a while now. The band was conceived by Segor and Garegin in 2001, which means they’re around for a decade now.
I became a fan when they had just released their single At the Cross, and we’re well into working on their third album Sign of Time, which came out at the beginning of this year. So having downloaded their second album The Blood of the New Covenant for free from their website, I set of my journey into the magical land of Black Metal. I was thrilled at hearing the album for the first time and was fascinated by the dynamic combination of classical and heavy music.
Now, a good two years later I was able to secure a short interview with the “team leader” of Blood Covenant.

About a month ago we reviewed the self-titled debut of a brutal American Death Metal band with the not-so-brutal name Super Happy Story Time Land. Their album was a surprise, in the positive sense of the word. We got into contact with Travis, who’s sorta like the band’s manager and were given the opportunity to interview the band. Given the band’s rep, we didn’t even take the trouble of coming up with serious questions. And guess what, this interview was a revelation!
For those who haven’t yet read our review of SHSTL, you can find it here.

Remember last week, when we put up a review of Swingshot’s EP Farewell the Season? After Emily hooked us up with a digital copy of that EP, she also arranged for us to do an interview with nearly the full band. Fuckin’ sweet!
We spoke to BJ Griffith (lead vox), Mike Collins (guitars), Loren Queener (bass and vox) and Shane Reed (percussion and vox). The only one we missed therefore is Matt Bradley who’s responsible for drums and vox. It matters not, we’ve been getting some pretty cool answers to our questions. Time to report on them!

About two months ago we did a review of Enfeebling the Throne, the latest album by Orientally-inspired Black Metal band Raven Woods – back then we erroneously spelled it as Ravenwoods, as we discovered from the current interview, as you’ll be able to read later on.
We got into contact with Ozan Yildirim, who plays the bass in Raven Woods and convinced him to do an interview with us. It took a couple of turns in e-mailing up and down stream, but in the end we learned a great lot about the band, for which we’re very grateful to Ozan. Quickly read on for the full interview!

As announced, today we add another great name to our list of interviews with superbly awesome Metal bands: Omnium Gatherum. They have a new album, titled New World Shadows, coming up and promo is on in full. They agreed to do an interview with Death Metal Baboon, which made us overfilled with joy and happiness!
Seriously though, how cool is it when you get to ask a load of questions to one of your all time favorite bands?! We did the interview with Markus Vanhala, who has been providing the band’s guitar tunes since 1996. It turned out quite a long bugger, so you may want to grab yourself a beer and some crisps or something!

[Just as this post went up today My Kingdom Music, the band's label sends me an e-mail with some more answers by the band to my own continued questions. I had asked a couple more questions some weeks ago, but the band has been slightly slow to reply - and my puny brain just forgot about it! Now however, I've added in those extra questions and answers. If you've read this post before 6 p.m. CET, you may want to read it again, because extra stuff has appeared!]
In November I put up a review of an album by Italian Progressive Death Metal formation SuperbiA. I scored it a 9.5 on 10 and it also made it into my little list of best replay value albums that I shared with the readers of No Clean Singing. Second place in fact. I guess you won’t be surprised when I tell you I like their stuff! So, it was an honor to find out they we’re up for a little interview with us!

Not so long ago we had a music post featuring good Florida power metal band called Predator and their Closet Anti-Christ video. I’ve been in contact for a while with Roger, the band’s publicist and Damien Lee Thorr, who’s been taking care of guitaring and writing efforts for the band. Currently they are working on their second album Born in Blood. I’ve been asking a load of questions about their style, that new album, their societal attitude and Mozart. Why the fuck not?!

Since The Baboon started we’ve been able to witness massive amounts of good Death Metal coming out of Russia. Demon Project, from Siberia’s capital of Novosibirsk, is a band that delivers such material, but it differs from most others in that it has made extensive use of electronics and synths in its songs. Now, I don’t normally like that too much, but Demon Project really manage to do it masterfully!

I’ve asked the band’s Dmitry Novokhatski, guitarist, vocalist, programmer and founding father, about the band’s musical endeavors. You’ll also find a track off their new album, Faces of Yaman, which is only released in Russia and other CIS Countries, inside. Go read/watch!

Pay attention now if you’re into progressive metal! Sweden’s Wolverine has worked its way to the pinnacle of the genre since it formed and started out playing melodically influenced Death Metal in 1995. Tough they didn’t stick around in the Death Metal department, they do return on occasion to borrow some musical elements, most notably some growls. We, at The Baboon, featured their track Towards Loss in early July.

I managed to get a hold of drummer and founding member Marcus Losbjer and talked to him about the band’s style, their song writing strategy, the critical nature of the band and their upcoming album Communication Lost. Go read/watch!
