And that was nearly three months ago. Just didn’t have time to cover them any sooner. And I don’t really have any now either, so I’ll just dump you a pile of vids to keep you occupied. Go be a good boy – or girl – and entertain yourself with this great fuckin’ Indian music!

I’ve been exploring the web for a while and lately I discovered a lot of interesting new bands, some of which completely blown my mind, as they push the boundaries of what I held for possible. Some of these aren’t completely Metal, but all of them are exceptionally cool and certainly worth of your time. So enjoy the next half hour of Post-Alternative Blackened Punkcore.
Shining
First up are a Norwegian band called Shining, which is not really a name associated with the more serious, dark or violent themes addressed in Metal. It comes as no surprise then that Shining started out as an acoustic Jazz-quartet. However, after two albums, they started taking their music apart and evolved through a form of Jazzy Post-Rock to what they are today on their album Blackjazz, a dark combination of Industrial, Jazz, Deathcore, Alternative and Experimental Metal. In one word, Avant-Garde Metal, whatever that might mean.

UK Doom Metallers Conan have just uploaded a video of them performing a new song of their upcoming album, at the Buffalo Bar, Cardiff. The name Hawk as Weapon, already sounds cool to me, and the live recording sounds promising. I’ve always wondered what these guys would sound like live, and all I can say is that they sound louder and heavier than in the studio. Which is a good thing.
Then who are Conan? We wrote about them little over a month ago, and we were all quite positive. I wrote about their latest record Horseback Battle Hammer
their music feels like you’ve just had a massive blow with a war hammer, and now you lie on the ground, which is wet from the rain, while you can’t feel anything.

Despite – or perhaps because – I had a 20 hour working day yesterday / this morning, I had plenty of time to listen to music. Just didn’t have any fuckin’ time to write about it, as I was wrestling 1.4 million line Excel docs and PowerPoint files with way too much fuckin’ bullcrap. That wasn’t particularly fun, but one of the main things that kept me going until 4:30 a.m. was fellow Dutch national Christian Olde Wolbers, with his both chugging and catchy jamming which I’d like to share today.
If his name strikes you as familiar, that’s perhaps because he’s been a long but no longer standing member of American Industrial Metal formation Fear Factory, on both bass and guitar duties. On top of that he has worked with Mnemic, Threat Signal, Devin Townsend, God Forbid and many more. Currently he’s involved in Arkaea and Beowülf and he’s the CEO of his own company in goalkeeper’s gloves, Aviata Sports. Summarizing, you could say he’s a busy man.

I just saw this over at NCS and couldn’t pass up sharing it here. On the evening of Oct. 22nd Kvelertak, Skeletonwitch, Tombs and Psychic Limbs played a show on a small cruise boat in NYC. An A/V dude going by the name (((unartig))) captured the performances on video and has put them, along with many more, at his Vimeo page. Skeletonwitch is one of my very favorite bands so only their set is ahead here along with a music video and a track from their latest, Forever Abomination.

Got another tip from motig, our serial linkdumper. The guy manages to discover more shit fuck awesome bands every time. It’s like there’s no end to his supply of awesome.
What he came up with for today is called Diamond Plate, an Illinois-based four-pieced Thrash Metal outfit. The band formed in 2004, but only released its debut record last August. This debut is called Generation Why? and contains eleven tracks and nearly an hour worth of riff-tastic in-your-face Thrash. The recipe for such is simple: just plenty supply of quick-as-fuck riffs at raw amp settings. At that then played aggressive as a rabid hippo – apparently hippos are among the most aggressive of nature’s creatures, did you know?
What do we share with you today? Two recordings of a gig, of two songs off Generation Why? And as an added bonus we’ll also throw in a guitar lesson.

Well fuck it. Came across one that’s even better and waddayaknow, it’s also one I’ve already posted in the past. It’s Heaven Shall Burn, which I’m sure won’t be unfamiliar to most of you.
The German band formed in 1996 and when it comes to aggression, there’s not much that can even get close. Their lyrics show, and I quote Wiki, ”a militant support of anti-racism and fighting social injustice”. Another fun fact is that all of the group’s members are vegan, meaning it’s not just meat they don’t eat, but anything that stems from animals. Fine by me, leaves more beef for me to munch away. Great people these guys!
All the fuckin’ about aside, these guys lay down an excellent piece of music to which it’s just physically impossible to sit still. In fact, I dare you!

Just something I came across just now. As I Lay Dying is a real guilty pleasure of mine, mainly because of their boundless energy, classic breakdowns and catchy choruses. Moreover, they’re one of the few bands that I’ve actually taken the time for to listen to their complete repertoire (at least as it was a couple of years ago). Call me emo, call me ‘core kid, I know better.
Anyfuck, was surfing YT a bit and came across some very recent footage of their performance at one of Europe’s largest Metal festivals, Wacken Open Air in Germany. It was held from August 4 to 6, so with a bit of goodwill you may still call this ‘news’. Sound quality is pretty decent too, though you will have to up the volume a bit, it’s a bit soft.
I’ve picked out just a few of the videos available, of songs that are among their best in my holy opinion. Just note that there’s more to be head if you surf YT. Knock yourself out after the jump.

Remember some 4 months ago, when we focused on a bunch of angry Scots forming a band called Achren and playing a musical flavor they’ve termed Blood Metal? We briefly mentioned the then imminent release of their live DVD recorded at Bloodstock Open Air 2010. Well guess what: it’s out and they baptized it Impaled at Bloodstock-Open-Air 2010.
The official press release is this: “Scottish Blood Metallers Achren have released their debut Live Concert DVD entitled ‘Impaled at Bloodstock-Open-Air 2010.’ Produced in conjunction with UK based Darkbox Films, the DVD features their whole award winning Bloodstock performance from the New Blood Stage at last year’s festival, band biography, photo galleries and preview recordings of their upcoming debut album.”
To clarify, the band’s full performance consisted of 7 blood spilling tracks, together measuring about half an hour, which are then all found on the DVD. We’ve got the performance of the title giving track lined up for you after the break, from which you can judge the intensity of the audio blood bath.

Last Saturday Byrd came up with an awesome little post featuring Deicide live, a kick-ass performance with the intensity of a cluster bombardment. He found the track on Earache Record’s channel on a site called MUZU.TV. I scouted that out for you a bit and turns out there’s more lengthy ear raping material to be found.
For example, there’s a full live performance of The Haunted on there. According to the description below the video it’s at the Alaska Blitz Club in 2000. I have no fuckin’ clue, and neither does Google. I’ve got a pretty sneaky suspicion that intel’s wrong. I see some Japanese-looking people in the audience, so what I think this is, is the full Live Rounds in Tokyo album, which came out at the end of 2001, edited with some documentary type pieces about the band. Find the fucker after the jump.
