Last Saturday Byrd came up with an awesome little post featuring Deicide live, a kick-ass performance with the intensity of a cluster bombardment. He found the track on Earache Record’s channel on a site called MUZU.TV. I scouted that out for you a bit and turns out there’s more lengthy ear raping material to be found.
For example, there’s a full live performance of The Haunted on there. According to the description below the video it’s at the Alaska Blitz Club in 2000. I have no fuckin’ clue, and neither does Google. I’ve got a pretty sneaky suspicion that intel’s wrong. I see some Japanese-looking people in the audience, so what I think this is, is the full Live Rounds in Tokyo album, which came out at the end of 2001, edited with some documentary type pieces about the band. Find the fucker after the jump.
I’ve just found this full-length live show of Deicide playing at The Rescue Rooms. I have no idea where that is, so if you know please enlighten us. This is from the Earache Records website and I can’t tell how long they plan to keep it available, so we’re going to plant it right here for you for as long as it’s good for! Without further adieu, DEICIDE!!!
Update: NCS contributor Andy Synn has informed us that The Rescue Rooms is a venue in Nottingham, UK.
I’m back from the land of the Danes! Had a great week of relaxation, hamburgers, other soul food, loads of walking and the accompanying blisters and just a lot of quality time with my girl. I also had a complete lack of metal the whole week, so I’m craving. Sweat’s bursting out constantly, white foam dripping from the corners of my mouth, trembling, aggression. After Islander’s spree of Dutch Metal yesterday at NCS, I thought I’d welcome myself back with some quality Dutch as well.
Diggeth is the name of the band that’ll start us back up again and their game is called Metal ‘n Roll. It’s a delicious mixture of soulfull Southern grooves and heavy churning riffs. And some lovely soloing as well.
We’ll do a bunch of crack shot live performances today, just because we can. And you know what else? We’ll keep ‘em all in the progressive department to one degree or another. Piece by piece these are bands and musicians that you won’t be able to copy with a few weeks – or years for that matter – of practice. These are cream of the crop. So pay attention to those guitar fingers and lightning fast drum sticks. Pay attention to the amazing sound and crispness of these performances. These artists aren’t admired for nothing you know.
So, we stick to progressive metal. What’s the first band to pop into your mind? Dream Theater! So we’ll put that one up first for ya. Then, we have a bunch of geezers from a UK prog rock band called Porcupine Tree with a great song. And finally we have my all-time guitar idol, Mr. Joe Satriani, who will easily and happily demotivate any beginning guitar players with his fuck-me-I’ll-never-be-able-to-do-that playing.
Thou started out in Louisiana in 2005 playing a sludge doom metal that played loudly will shake the ground under you. Since their formation they’ve released a constant stream of material including three full-lengths and more EPs and splits than I care to count. Check out this live performance of Sweet Leaf in a very intimate setting.
Also, check out their website for a download of this song and several others!
I know that In Flames are well represented here, but this video is a fucking partyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Listen to two songs and watch the live footage. Only for the Weak is the first one and straight after that Clayman.
Here’s one of my old favorites. W.A.S.P. has been active since 1982 and released material on a fairly regular basis. Animal (Fuck Like A Beast) was their first single from 1984 and set them up to be a prime target for the P.M.R.C.’s campaign for censorship. Lend an eye and ear to a live performance of this classic metal anthem.
Well, I’m sure Marilyn Manson isn’t news to anyone but I love the morally degenerate fucker, especially his early material. So, since today is my birthday I’m serving myself and all of you some Cake and Sodomy off of the 1994 Portrait of an American Family album.
Formed in Canada in 2006 Bison B.C. play a style of sludge/stoner metal in the vein of early Mastodon. Check out this live performance of Slow Hand of Death from their debut album Quiet Earth.
Meshuggah: loud, complicated, polyrhythmic. If you listen to these guys for the first time you’ll likely be completely confused. It takes a few turns to chew through this, but once you have, you’ll love it! Last Saturday these Swedes played at the Zwarte Cross (Black Cross, pertaining to the dirt bike and other vehicle crossing they do at the festival) Festival in my home village of Lichtenvoorde in the Netherlands. I was (and still am) busy with moving to a new apartment, so I could not attend the festival myself (crap!), but thankfully I found lots of material online. This is a compilation of Meshuggah’s performance last weekend.
With our thanks to Erhan, both for filming and pointing me at it!
