Some people aren’t too fond of the fact that metal is subdivided into so many subgenres and sub-subgenres. Indeed, more often than not bands are in an overlapping area between two or more “genre boxes”. Still, subgenres do have their characteristic elements as Raz Ben Ari here will quite accurately illustrate. And not only that, his medley of styles is also just a lovely piece of music!
The Baboon wrote a song. Well, actually, he wrote it quite a while ago, some 6 or 7 years I estimate. I just had my guitar back then and was taking lessons with a private teacher and all. Now I just discovered a tape with a song on it that I wrote and recorded with the teacher back then. Decided to digitalize the bugger, before the tape would complete its process of decomposition. Here it is.
A guy drumming in the office to a track of Suffocation, titled Infecting the Crypts. So, is it real? I don’t think it is, but I bet he could do it for real. In any case it’s cool enough to watch!
This one is a nice one! Climhazzard was a beginning American melodic death metal band that recently and unfortunately went into an indefinite hiatus. This is one of their tracks, called Hymn of the Forsaken. Thankfully the band’s lead guitarist Garrett J. Peters continues his display of awesomage. Here‘s how he plays that same song’s solo.
We have seen both KrimhKerim and Cataclysmichael before here. Today I have a video of them combining their skills in a great cover of Dimmu Borgir’s Cataclysm Children. Excellent footage of them displaying their skills! Go read/watch!
One of the categories The Baboon has to offer is that of Talented “Amateurs”. Today we have another “amateur” musician that should definately move up a rank in profession. YouTube user LiamENGL has uploaded a nice collection of guitar cover clips. One of those is the solo for Scar Symmetry’s Ghost Prototype 1. Flawless if you ask me! Go read/watch!
We’ve seen Nightrage before on deathmetalbaboon.com. Unfortunately there aren’t many good videos of them online. Today I have some guys from South-Korean band Method doing a pretty decent (and fast) cover of their song Being Nothing. I say: fuckin’ A! Go read/watch!
YouTube user cataclysmichael has done a huge amount of guitar covers, recorded them and shared them with the general YouTube public. His most recent one is already four months old, so I say it’s time for a new one! Anyway, here is the track Icarus Lives by Periphery. Great looking guitar! Go read/watch!
Another “amateur” (mind the quotation marks again!). Schehf seems to be a fan of In Flames, considering he has a YouTube page absolutely stuffed with In Flames covers. I rather like this one; Leeches. And, no he’s not a twin! Go read/watch!
Major talent today! YouTube user Killrbuckeye has done a large number of extremely tight death metal and metalcore covers. Earlier this year he has released two of his own compositions and they breath major awesomeage. Here’s The Rising! Go read/watch!
