Hiatus…

A you’ve all noticed we’ve been on a bit of a hiatus today, but now it’s Friday night and the large part of my exams are over, so I’ll just throw down some of the music I’m digging at the moment. Nothing special, just some bands to keep you busy.

First up is a song by Enslaved, which seems to be a band of contradiction to me. I’m not very familiar with them, but I was really attracted to this song called Ethica Odini, an 8-minute long hybrid of Black Metal and Progressive Rock. It’s really a fabulous piece of music, but when I look at the list of album reviews at the Metal Encyclopedia, I actually find people who are angry with Enslaved for putting out this album Axioma Ethica Odini. I really like it though, because the balance between Black Metal and edgy Prog Rock is just perfect.

The video is pretty cool too, with an animation with clay figures, red and white ones, moving around, doing stuff. Hahaha. It just seems to me I’m just rambling on and talking rubbish. Sorry.
But the story in the video is pretty cool. The red clay figures seem to be in heaven and are free to move, while the wait figures are attached to each other via a string attached to the back of their heads and they float in space. The string attachment kind of reminds me of the Matrix, but yeah. One of the white guys tries to reach for a big white sun, through which he can reach the heaven of the red figures, but he is pulled back. Ok, I won’t spoil the video for you guys, I’ll be nice. Here is the video so you can see for yourself:

And here is the song Lightening of the same album:

You can find Enslaved on Facebook.

Next up is a band called Sleep of the Black Kali, which I discovered via our friend at Valley of Steel. Their latest effort is a split together with Union of Sleep and it portrays a nice combination of Sludge and Stoner Metal, while sometimes I get a bit of a Shoegaze feel at the more melodic parts. The vocals are quite pleasant to hear and of the kind you typically hear with the more Doomy kind of Metal styles. For some reason they always remind of whales. Yes, whales. I have no video, but I do have a Bandcamp-widget with a free download. If you click through you can find their EP, which is a name-your-price download.

[Edit: in the meantime the split one became a $3-sacrifice, bummer.]

  1. Valley of Steel Says:

    Still a good deal at $3 :)

I’ve been listening to Enslaved for only a few years, myself, but it seems like the complaints are similar to fans of Opeth: they started out in a particular style (in this case, Norwegian Black Metal) but then branched out a bit, adding more unique twists to the sound instead of making the same album again and again. Some people just like to complain.

Also: what time zone are you in? Here it is Wednesday. Are you two days ahead, or five days behind? :>

It’s thursday here. But I started writing this last week, and then finished it two days ago ;)

    And I agree, it’s still a steal at $3.

Lol, the Black Sleep of Kali became free again.
