Misery Index

The Baboon has been missing Baltimore, Maryland’s Misery Index until now. Many of you may already be familiar with their Deathgrind material but if you’re one who’s not then there’s no better time than now to get acquainted. I’ve lined up some career spanning samples for you.

Misery Index formed in 2001 featuring several ex-members of Dying Fetus and taking their name from the last Assück album. The misery index is also an economic indicator. They play Death Metal with obvious Grindcore and Hardcore influences.

We’ll start with Demand the Impossible from their first full-length 2003′s Retaliate. Definately heavy on the Grindcore but with slammin’ grooves that are lost in much newer Grind.

This next video is a double feature containing a live perfomance of Conquistadors from their second album Discordia (2006) followed by Traitors the title track of their 2008 album. The video was shot during an in store appearance at Generation Records in NYC so it’s very up-close and personal!

We’ll end our journey with my personal favorite Misery Index song The Carrion Call from their 2010 release Heirs to Thievery. There’s something about this song that makes me want to bitch slap people while stomping in a circle, but I think that’s normal. What do you think?

You can find more on Misery Index at their Facebook or Myspace.

I think bitch-slapping people while stomping in a circle is normal if you’re circling counterclockwise. If you circle clockwise, it’s really aberrant behavior and you need to seek counseling.

Great news, I’m normal after all!

  3. Islander Says:

In your case, possibly more evidence is needed.

I’ll have to agree. I may have jumped the gun on that conclusion. I don’t think normal people would’ve went and laid on cold asphalt under a Toyota for 6 hours, but I just did :(

    Pissed off your wife again?

  6. byrd36 Says:

Not this time. Damn destructive teenage driver repairs. Just spent another 4 hours on it today with many more to come :(

  7. Niek Says:

What the hell did he do?!

  8. byrd36 Says:

Drivin’ too fast on a wet road. Spun it out and hit a pole with the right side and a tree with the left. Bent all kinds of shit up around and under the car. We’ve got it about half roadworthy again now. It’ll be uglier than it was for sure though.

Well all things considered, you can consider yourselves pretty lucky then! I take it he’s fine?

  10. byrd36 Says:

Yeah, he’s ok. He was a little shook-up and sore for a few days. He’s definately lucky.

  11. Niek Says:

OK, good to hear it. Good luck fixing the wheels then!
