Music Posts for Thursday August 26th 2010

We’ve got three for ya today: Portuguese melodeath, Greek doomy Death and Ukrainian metalcore by Echidna, Luna Obscura and Wasted Heroes respectively. So crank up the volume, play the music and ignore your neighbors bashing on your door for quiet. It’s metal. It’s meant to be played loud.

Echidna – Purifier

In the thrash department, we’ve had a Greek band named Echidna a while ago. Today we’ve got one for the melodeath department from Portugal. This one formed in the town of Gaia in 2001. For years they didn’t get much done until finally, in 2008, they released their first studio album, Insidious Awakenings.

Purifier is one of the nine tracks on that record. Love that mud-thick break/solo section after about three minutes they’ve got there. Very metal!

Luna Obscura – Symphony of Sighs

If my knowledge of Latin hasn’t completely and utterly abandoned me, Luna Obscura is an obscure or dark moon. It’s also a Greek doomy Death Metal band. Quite melodic, slightly symphonic and with awesome beast-like male vocals that would scare off little kids and women, nicely contrasted with pure female singing. This one’s pretty good!

This band formed in 2000 and, like Echidna up there, didn’t get much done for the first eight or nine years of its existence. Then came 2008 and a nice debut album named Feltia. In line with their symphonic style, this song is titled Symphony of Sighs. Judging by what it actually is Symphony of Grunts would have been a better title, but what do I know?!

The band also have a MySpace Page!

Wasted Heroes – When the Earth Calms Down

Got more melodeath – has anybody noticed they tend to call it “modern Death Metal” these days? – for you. I haven’t got many facts about these chaps, so let me sum them up for you: nationality = Ukrainian, home town = Kharkov, style = metalcore, starting year = 2008. Oh yeah, and in 2010 they released an album named Between the Worlds on which we find this track.

Went on their MySpace a bit and found a nice description of their message with this album. I quote (so pardon the lingual mistakes!): “The time is ripe… You’re wasted and calm. Now you’re standing at the brink, you’re looking into the distance thinking about life and death, love and hate, the ups and downs, the worlds you enter choosing your way. And only when the earth calms down for a moment, you start to really appreciate the things that were always beside… And so it’s hardly heard a heart-rending scream that lives in dreams and wishes, soaked by war stink and total desire of power and immortality… But ones burning like a star you understand that time for the feats has come, the time for an eternal flight calling the life… and regrets about the end of existence won’t kill your inexhaustible desire to live”. Fuck yeah!
