Some more batched and bit-ready music for you. We’ve got monkey-inspired Stoner from the UK. Then, we’ve got something that actually isn’t too far away in the way it sounds, though it’s much heavier: Byzantine. Let’s call it stoned Death-groove metal or something. They come in with a song called Redneck War. Third and final is a Dutch band named Detonation. Boom!
I came onto all of these bands through No Clean Singing – as said before, very cool site! Credit where credit’s due, so thanks guys!

Enos – Launch
Apart from some biblical figure, Enos was also a monkey – chimpanzee to be exact. Not just any chimpanzee though, but one to have flown into space, in a full-fledged test flight for John Glenn’s trip into orbit about three months later. After two laps around the earth Enos’ spacecraft returned to Earth and back on the ground he seemed “a changed chimp”, jumping and running around from excitement and shaking hands with his researchers.

And then you’re a bunch of guys in Brighton, UK and you need a name for your stoner rock band and you pick Enos. It’s not just the name though, this is a solid and well executed concept. They’ve made a comic of Enos’ trip and sketch it in music on their first album, Chapter 1. Both are up for free download. Chapter 1 deals with, subsequently and expressed in the songs’ titles, Launch, In Space, Floating, Transform and Back to Earth.
What is this like? Apart from awesome, well thought-up, highly original and simply brilliant you mean? Well, they remind me of Mustasch, the Swedish stoner rock formation, a bit. We’ll start with the beginning on this one – and then you can take things further yourself. Let’s launch the monkey!

Byzantine – Redneck War
Byzantine are from a place called Charleston, West Virginia and formed in 2000. Then they split up in 2008, got back together in late 2009 for just three shows in March of this year. That must have been a good experience for them, because they’ve just – as in this month – that they’re back together. So good news!

It’ll likely take a while before they come up with a new record, so for now we’ll go back to 2005. It was the year of …And They Shall Take up Serpents. Personally I can’t see why the fuck they’d do that, because I hate snakes more than I hate popular music, but that’s how they named their album. Redneck War is one of the ten tracks on this album and after a great darkened Country intro it kicks off into something raw and smashing. Amazing piece of music!

Detonation – The Loss of Motion Control
Though started out as a death-thrash outfit in 1997 – then by the name of Infernal Dream – Detonation evolved into a melodeath band in time. These countrymen of mine came up with three album, in 2002, 2005 and 2007. From the second one, Portals of Uphobia, we’ve got the track The Loss of Motion Control.

As a matter of fact, this track has been brought up on NCS in tribute of a particularly nice burger – without wanting to brag, the recipe is mine. “Heavy and sweet indeed. Brilliant piece of guitar solo to match the pineapple. Some crunchy riffs to represent the bacon. And some lovely melody lines that make the beef. What an analogy!”

Glad you liked these tunes! I forgot I had that Detonation album until looking for a suitable tribute to your awe-inspiring burger. Haven’t listened to that Byzantine song in ages. So very, very crushing.
