Niek’s List of Best 15 Albums Reviewed – Part 0
Lists. I generally don’t make them, unless I’m going out to get fuckin’ groceries or something. But it’s the end of the year and apparently that seems to mean all Metal blogs must publish lists. Any lists, doesn’t matter, as long as it reflects the past year. Lists of best albums are the most frequently features ones, but I don’t think any site’s readership would plummet in case there were lists of Shittiest Albums of the Year, Most Unspoken of Underground band of 2011 ,or 2011 Best Shag Had.
I’ve considered those options, but then again, my list of shitty albums doesn’t exist because I don’t condone the self-torment of listening to shitty albums in the first place, I haven’t heard anything about the most unspoken bands at all, and I’ve only had one shag all year – or ever really – so that wouldn’t be what you’d call a ‘list’ either.
And so I’m making a list of shit I know about, have enjoyed and is actually more than one: the best albums I’ve reviewed in the past twelve months. Simple!
![]() |
And so I went through all the reviews that have gone online on DMB. I’ve limited myself to albums only and obviously to those albums that were released in 2011. I jotted down a list of nominees, and guess what! Exactly 15. Fuckin’ easy, this list making business!
Next task is to discuss each and every one of those fifteen and provide you with some insight as to why each record landed itself a place on the most prestigious year-end list in the whole wide Metal world. That would make a 20 billion word article, which is more than I have stamina for to write in one go and probably more than you have stamina for to read as well. Hence: I’ve cut it up.
Not logically or scientifically in three batches of five or something, but first a batch of six; the honorable mentions so to say, the ones that are good and deserve a place on our list. They are given in no particular order in the first batch, which will appear soon.
Following up will be a second batch of five. Five albums that aren’t just good but have certainly tickled my pleasure bone. Albums that I’ve listened to time and time again when I just got them and albums that I’ll still listen to with a certain interval today. Once again, these are listed in no particular order.
The final batch of four are those albums of 2011 that I, after reviewing them, haven’t been able to leave along for more than a few days without foam appearing on my lips and vomit exiting my nose. Albums, in short, that are so infectious that they’ll give you a certain addiction!
So, keep your eyes out for this, without question, most influential list in the world of Metal: DMB Niek’s List of Best 15 Albums Reviewed!

I am tumescent with anticipation. But dude, only one shag all year? I think I see the problem — you may want to do something with that funny bone, like investigate plastic surgery. NAsty looking funny bone.

One if you don’t count duplicate shags of the same shag, so to say. Also, you sound like her when I whip out my pleasure bone

Wailing, weeping, and gnashing of teeth, huh? I get that a lot too.

I know! A bit of teeth, or even biting, can be nice sometimes, but there’s also such a thing as too much.

True. Speaking only for myself, but if there are going to be any sharp edges applied to the ol’ war pike, I want a lot of anesthesia first.

I just put on some agonizing Black Metal to numb the pain.

Definitely think Lamb of God’s “Resolution” should make a best of 2012 list!

In order to contribute something to this nice conversation:
The way this baboon’s bone looks like comes close to mine when my foreskin was cut off (I’m not jewish). Well, I was 4 or 5 at that time so there’s a small difference in size
Back to topic, I’m quite sure there will be at least on album with the participation of Mr. Saukkonen on that list. Just wondering why you still haven’t done a review of the new Black Sun Aeon album.

@niek, I sense some Stielas Storhett

@Marina: I’ve heard only the one single song so far, but that sounded good. Very ‘Lamb of God’. Will check out what follows!
@CroOZza: the raunchy pictures in my mind are beyond any description! But yes, you’re right, Saukkonen is featured. Why haven’t I reviewed the new Black Sun Aeon? Because I didn’t even know it existed!
@T: Check.

Ok, that’s a good reason, or a rather bad one. I’m hoping Santa will bring it to you then!

Just ordered it!
