P.O.D.

It’s been a while since I wrote anything, but it seems to me that I kind of fell out off the Metal-boat for some reason. This morning I listened to Depth’s latest EP which appealed to me, but what really brought me back here was the song Eyez by Rap Metal-legends P.O.D. Earlier this year the guys already released the song On Fire, which came as a total surprise, but this totally shook my balls.

The lyrics take me back to a video, which showed some Black Metal artists commenting on the concept of Christian Black Metal, and one of the guys on there said that he was alright with the idea, only if they would actually scare the hell out of him with the might of God. I can tell you that not many Christian Black Metal bands do that, but P.O.D. here are doing just fine, with a mixture of unforgiven blasphemy, rising dead, guillotines and killing fields.

Musically, I like it just as much as lyrically, this song just sounds really evil compared to P.O.D.’s previous stuff. The bass just sounds like they listened to the Moshketeers a lot, which is a good thing. There is also some mean, almost Thrashy guitar riffing going on and there is actually a guitar solo in there in the beginning.

P.O.D. Can be found on the mighty Facebook, but they also have a website where you can download Eyez for free. On top I’ll also get you a video of On Fire, which is also a really cool and enjoyable song, and if you click through on the official website, you can also find a download of that in the column to the right.

Of you want to hear the wrath of God in metal lyrics, listen to Oh, Sleeper’s last album “Children of Fire”. I’m not huge into metalcore and their previous albums are pretty laughable. But this latest album really blew me away in its unrelenting brutality both lyrically and musically. Listen to this song to know what I’m talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgYzKOTT10c

And thanks for reminding me about POD. It’s been so long since I’ve heard them, haha.

    Good bass!

Also, there’s a certain caribbean element in there. Some reggae or something, maybe something else. Used to listen to these guys ages ago. Not my thing anymore, but I still understand the appeal it had to me.
