Rockin’ Out with Soundgarden

Ah, Soundgarden. I’m pretty sure that anyone who’s listened to any heavy music or even just Rock radio in the past sixteen or so years has heard of them, thanks to Black Hole Sun. That song alone isn’t responsible for their wide-spread success, several songs from the Superunknown and Down on the Upside albums enjoyed lots of radio play. That’s not what we’re diggin’ into today.

Many people don’t realise that the band formed waaayyyy back in 1984. Nearly a decade before the height of the Grunge movement they’re usually associated with and the release of the songs they’re best known for. So, today we’re going one album back from Superunknown to 1991′s Badmotorfinger.

First let’s Rock Out to Jesus Christ Pose, my personal favorite song from this album. I didn’t even know the band had made an official video for the song until starting this post. I guess MTV (you know that channel that doesn’t ever play any music anymore, much less Metal or good Rock) thought that the imagery and lyrics were too controversial at the time for any artist that wasn’t Madonna. Anyway, great song, good video, check it out.

Another great piece of the album is Room a Thousand Years Wide. This song delivers a shit-load of groove. I mean, if this doesn’t get you groovin’ then your groove-bone is fucked up! The groove carries all the way through and some chaotic brass sounds come in near the end that just pushes it past the edge.

We hope you’ve enjoyed Rockin’ Out and I suggest you pick up Badmotorfinger. It’s a good addition to any Metalhead’s collection. If you want to catch current news on Soundgarden try their Facebook.
