Keith’s Medley

Wed, 14/03/2012

Something else I haven’t got time for. But I just couldn’t neglect feeding you this. That’d be criminal, even though it isn’t even Metal. But it’s fuckin’ Metal! If you just took a look at that pic, you probably exclaimed something like “What in the name of Flying Fuck is that?!” That’s what I said. Turns out it’s Keith Medley’s home-made 27-string guitar type of thing and we’ve got a vid of him playing it. It’s hot shit!

Woods of Desolation – Torn Beyond Reason

Mon, 06/02/2012

Our most active link dumper Motig once spoke the now-legendary words “I guess I do shit links”. From this sprang the discussion on whether he shits links or whether he submitted shit links. In relation to this, today’s post proves that he certainly doesn’t submit shitty links here. Woods of Desolation are one of the many gems Australia holds as a Metal-country, and with their latest studio album Torn Beyond Reason.

I’d actually heard of Woods of Desolation from another source, namely Threnodies’ Sound in Autumn Woods Sampler, roundabout the same time I received an e-mail with Motig’s links. The name Woods of Desolation sounded famous and the fact that I had to cover them, made me pluck the song Darker Days of that sampler. The song was quite good, certainly worth its spot, however, while playing some other songs, I just realised how magnificent this album actually is.

Valentine’s Day Metal Ballad

Mon, 28/06/2010

Something I just found and had to share. Nice one to present to your girl on Valentine’s Day. You do wanna sit this one out, no matter how sweet it sounds at first!

Månegarm – Vaggvisa

Wed, 16/06/2010

For months you get no acoustics at all and suddenly you get two on a day. Happens. And it happens today, because I’ve got another one for ya. Månegarm is a Swedish Viking/folk metal band, active since 1995. Vaggvisa, which means Lullaby, is found on 2006′s The Forest Sessions EP. No idea what they’re singing, but it sounds great.

Inexist – Acoustic Medley pt. 4

Wed, 16/06/2010

I’ve posted stuff by Inexist once and twice before. The Russian melodeath band came out with its fourth full length this year, which features a track with the unambiguous title Acoustic Medley pt. 4. The song’s idea is pretty good, but I have to say the keys sound way too Super Mario. Still, it’s worth a listen.

How to Listen to Death Metal (Part 1/2)

Fri, 16/04/2010

A step by step guide that will introduce the non-metallic music fan to the louder forms of metal. It will teach them how to listen to Death Metal. Basically this is suitable for anybody that tries to actually listen to his music. So, you may feed this to your underground jazz-listening mates, but it probably won’t do much good on your Lady Gaga-listening sister. This course will take you up to ‘level 1’; the realm of the melodic Death Metal fan. “That far?!” you might be wondering. Yes, that far.

Blind Guardian – The Bard’s Song – In the Forest

Sun, 11/04/2010

Let’s start off easy this morning. Though they normally play a heroic, speedy type power metal, Germany’s Blind Guardian also on occasionally writes acoustic songs that breathe the air of folky medieval times. The Bard’s Song – In the Forest is one of those, found on their 1992 release, titled Somewhere Far Beyond.

Horrified – Argentum Astrum

Thu, 08/04/2010

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had one of those acoustic metal beauties. Today it’s time again though. From the Greek band Horrified’s 2002 album Deus Diabolus Inversus: Argenteum Astrum.

Thanks to brutal fonias!

Dissection – Into Infinite Obscurity

Sat, 13/03/2010

The Swedish band Dissection, formed in 1989, is no longer together. They split up twice. The first time because vocalist/guitarist Jon Nödtveidt had to serve time in prison for murder. The second time because he committed suicide in 2006. Thankfully, the band left the world a nice discography. This is a short but beautiful acoustic track, named Into Infinite Obscurity, which can be found on their 1993 album The Somberlain.

This one’s thanks to kebabhasse!

All Shall Perish – Greyson

Thu, 11/03/2010

A beautiful acoustic to wake you up. Contrary to the material of All Shall Perish that I’ve posted before, the band is also capable of taking things slow and easy. Listen to this song, called Greyson.
