New Metal… and Something Unrelated

Sat, 18/09/2010

We start off this post with something completely unrelated, but so bizarre that I just have to share it. Ever seen a pheasant? You know, those big colorful birds looking not-so-smart out of their eyes? Turns out they don’t just look dumb, they are dumb! I can tell, because one flew straight into my face the other day. And it wasn’t flying slowly either when it did, cause it hurt. Felt a bit like getting head-raped by a watermelon

Anyway, I’ve been busy working this week, so I didn’t have much time to go and collect, research and write about more good music. That’s why you’ve been without yesterday and I’ll doubt it’ll be the last time. But not today, because we’ve got something fresh lined up for you again.

What do we have? Canadian technical Death. Swedish modern Thrash. And some American alternative/rock stuff, because frankly, I don’t always need to assault my poor eardrums with the loudest of loud metal on the planet. The bands you’re about to hear are, in the same order, Augury, The Crown and Coheed and Cambria. Enjoy your Saturday!

Dirge Within – Inhuman

Tue, 17/08/2010

Have some American metalcore, mixed with alternative and death metal sauce. If you, like me, are thinking “these guys sound a bit like Soil, then that might not be a coincidence, because one of their guitarists used to be with Soil. Moreover, they’ve got Wayne Static, from Static X on guest vocals in this track.

Van Katoen – Terug bij Af

Mon, 16/08/2010

Had some alternative yesterday in the form of Germany’s Futile. We’ll drop in some more today: the Netherlands’ Van Katoen (Of Cotton, to “give someone of cotton” means to kick someone’s ass in Dutch, strange I know). Anyway, don’t put these guys in a box. It’s not metal, it’s not rock, it’s… well packed aggressive energy if anything. This track is called Terug bij Af, Back to Nowhere/Back to Start.

Futile – Dance of the Scarecrow

Sun, 15/08/2010

Here’s something that I discovered recently that I’ve been wearing out. German progressive alternative metal is all I can think of to call the music Futile make. Dance of the Scarecrow is from the 7 Nightmares album which you can download free or buy a hard copy of here.

Rosa Antica – Healing Wounds

Sun, 11/07/2010

Alternative Death Metal? That’s how Italian metallers Rosa Antica are described in the Metal Archives and I’ll agree. Formed in 2005 they’ve released an EP and an album titled Seven which holds this song, Healing Wounds.

Static-X – Destroyer

Wed, 09/06/2010

This isn’t Death Metal, but I dig it. Static-X is an American industrial metal band who’ve been busy since 1994. This is the official video for Destroyer off of the Cannibal album.

Stone Sour – Get Inside

Wed, 26/05/2010

Byrd36′s post about the demise of Slipknot bass player Paul Gray reminded me of Stone Sour, that other band that frontman Corey Taylor is active in, and the good times I spent listening to them. My undisputed favorite song of theirs is Get Inside. I sought out the uncensored version for you, so cover your ears kids!

Slipknot – Surfacing

Tue, 25/05/2010

The metal community has suffered it’s third loss in just over a month’s time. Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead in a hotel room Monday, May 24, 2010. Here is Surfacing, my favorite song from their self-titled debut, back in ’99 when they were a fresh kick in the ass to the scene. R.I.P. Paul.

Life of Agony – River Runs Red

Tue, 25/05/2010

Something a little different. Life of Agony is an American alternative metal band formed in 1989. River Runs Red is the title track of their 1993 debut, a concept album about teen suicide.

Soil – Breaking Me Down

Thu, 22/04/2010

Soil is a band I’ve listened to extensively a couple of years ago. Though I’ve posted stuff of them before, Jonas requested the song Breaking Me Down. And who am I not to give it to him? So, here goes.

Thanks to Jonas!
