Remember the one and only, truer than trueNahktism from Washington, the States? They are back with some new work, and it seems to have pulled to something which appeals to me. Baptised and Drowned is faster, more raw and more solid than previous songs I’ve heard previously. I believe this band is certainly something to watch in the future.
Although it’s still instrumental, Baptised & Drowned certainly shows a development in Nahktisms work, and that’s something for which I’m always in. Especially the more raw, slight melodic and atmospheric (as far as that goes without keyboards) approach stands out and it has a really primal feel to it.

We have some news today. Well, you can’t exactly call it news, since it’s a week old already. But that’s for a reason, because in that week, I only sat in my room, in the dark, while spinning the video 24/7, without being able to get up and do something. So my apologies for that.
So we’re talking about Alcest, who are a French Black Metal duo which has had some coverage over here already. That’s actually the place where I heard them first, and since then I was enchanted by their music. They recently released a video for their single Autre Temps, which I must say, almost equals my favourite song Souvenirs d’un Autre Monde.

This album has been described as Post-Black Metal, and, although I’m not sure what that means, I’m happy to go along with that. Whatever Post-Black Metal may mean, all I know is that Resilience is an album full of brilliant Atmospherical, Technical and Electronic Black Metal.
Résilience is the french word for, you guessed it, resilience, which means something like flexibility. I’ve been wondering what this title meant, but as I couldn’t make any sense of the lyrical content of the album, I thought it must have to do with the listener. As I discovered, one has to be a very flexible listener in order to appreciate the music, and personally, I had some trouble shaping myself to this album. It took me two months to actually start on this album, but yesterday night I saw the light, and I journeyed into the magic land of Smohalla.

As I do not have access to the Dump a link “list”, it doesn’t happen that often that I do music posts without being asked to. However, this time I’ve got something special which I really wanted to share. Facebook-user Patrick Urban, sent us a link to this Atmospheric Black/Doom Metal band. Dammerfarben are a German band formed in 2005 by Guitarist/Vocalist/Cellist Blackheart Nostarion and started out as a solo-project. The addition of more members however, gave the band a boost, bringing forth their debut album Im Abentrot.
Closing in on 55 minutes Im Abentrot is not the shortest album and with songs in German, I would imagine this to be a very interesting listen. I turned out to be right as I searched the web for some material. I’ve got some awesome stuff for you after the jump.

Ok, now it’s time for the real obscuro Black Metal. This is Nahktism from yeah, where are they from. Their facebook displays the initials WA. So I guess that’s either Washington in the United States, which is in America, or Western Australia, in Australia. Anyway, these guys are very profane, but they sound good, so I didn’t want to hold you back from it.
First of all, I’d like you to clear your mind from bands you’ve labelled kvlt in the past because this band fucks with anything that dares to call themselves Black Metal. Their facebook page is filled with pentagrams cut in skins, tattoos of Saint Peter’s crosses and burning candles. I know they are not the first to do it, but this makes them at least more Black Metal than the likes of Dimmu Borgir.

I’ve been thinking about writing this article for a while now, and I believe the time has come. A lot of you have probably been thinking where my nickname comes from, and it won’t be a surprise to you that it is music related. To Reign Immortal is a song by Chilean Black Metal band Soterion, which is some Greek word which has to do with salvation. Of course, this is another Christian metal gem, but it is one of the first Black Metal bands that I listened to, and which seriously appealed to me.
As with a lot of Black Metal bands there’s not a lot of information about this band. They released one demo called Cult of Lies in 2005, of which I happen to own a digital copy. I got it from a fellow metalhead about a year ago, but don’t ask me were you can get it. Cult of Lies contains five songs of which I will get you two. Just to tease you with an awesome Black Metal band, whose stuff you’re not able to get.

When earlier this week we interviewed Heidevolk’s Joris Bochtdrincker, we asked him which band he would donate attention to were he to run The Baboon. His answer: ”Most definitely Hades from Norway. They’re a second wave of Black Metal band who never got the praise they deserved. I feel their first two CDs (“…Again Shall Be” and “Dawn of the Dying Sun”) are very underestimated and deserve more attention. Heaviness, pride, insane vocals, and a folkloristic touch to it.” And so now we’re checking them out as he suggested.
What we find is what Joris says. Hades is fuckin’ awesome, performing the optimum mix of acid Black Metal, melody and Folky Paganism. A brilliant mix and not one that I’ve come across often before. What I read is that the band was formed in the city of Bergen in 1992 by a dude named Jørn, an ex-member of Immortal, with the aim of creating a musical style ”filled with melancholy, desolation, as well as atmosphere, mystery and folklore”. Well, they did a fuckin’ A-class job!

Another piece of news tonight! Terry Vainoras was kind enough to inform us of his latest project, which is called Subterranean Disposition. The Most Subtle of Storms is the first glimpse of the self-entitled debut and was recently released on the web. Recently being two weeks ago.
Terry describes his music as ranging “From the grindcore of Damaged, to the Swedish melodic death stylings of Earth and on through the metallic hardcore of Order of Chaos, the black metal of Hellspawn and also the doom styles of Cryptal Darkness, The Eternal and Insomnius dei, Terry has covered much musical ground and Subterranean Disposition is the melting pot of creativity where the former and recent influences can meet and interplay.” Something interesting must be coming out of that.

Oh wow! I shit you not. Once I got past the first few seconds of the first track, in which a woman seems to giving birth to a full grown porcupine, and the actual music started, it didn’t take five seconds for a big fuckin’ smile to appear on my face. I shit you not. It started near my left ear and went all the way to my right ear. Now you tell me how often you’ve had that experience with Black Metal!
We’re dealing with Stielas Storhett today, a Russian one-man project by Damien T.G. who does everything himself. The dude hails from the Barents Sea harbor of Murmansk and started his project in 2005. A debut record followed in 2005 and then a split and an EP in 2008 and 2010 respectively. To be released on September 19th, so that’s coming Monday, is Expulse, the second album.
It’s to be released through the Italian cult label Code666, from which we’ve heard loads and loads of talented, primarly Black Metal, bands and projects. This particular album is better than most on the label’s roster. It’s amazing!
