Autolatry

Sun, 05/02/2012

I just drug my self out of bed and came here to find…nothing. I guess life is pretty busy right now for all of Baboon-kind. So, I’m throwing y’all another “name your price” album. This one’s from Autolatry. Formed in 2009 in Connecticut, they make Black Metal with some Death Metal, Hardcore and Progressive ingredients stirred in. They top it off with some lyrical themes about New England history. I just got this two or three days ago and have only listened to it a couple of times, but I’ve enjoyed those couple of times and as soon as this post is published I’m gonna listen to it with my second cup of coffee!

Nabaath – Central-A-Triangle

Fri, 03/02/2012

Here’s another quick one for you guys. Russian modern Black Metalers Nabaath released their second full-length, titled Central-A-Triangle, in December of last year. As with their first album and most recent demo (featured here before) they have released it for free. If you are a fan of Black Metal with sleek, modern production I don’t think you’ll want to miss this one.

FALSE – S/T

Thu, 02/02/2012

I looked at the posting queue and to my abhorrence, there was no post left for today. So I decided to make one on the spot. I’m able to because I just got my hands on the above bands EP. Well, at least it’s two songs, but together, they make for 24 minutes of absolute pleasure. One afternoon, I ended up at Threnodies, who mostly cover Metal genres coming from the North (think Folk-, Black-, Pagan-, and Viking Metal). They caught my attention however with their classification Black ‘N’ Roll, as I’m always in for some innovative Hybrid genres.

First up was a positive review of a band called FALSE, which got me interested, although I didn’t actually read it. However, the fact that their EP is a freebie kinda helped me over, of course, as I’m Dutch. The music FALSE display on their self-entitled is superb. It seems like where Death ‘N’ Roll gets it’s pounding force from rolling beats, FALSE get their drive from blast beats, although they still roll of course. Not only is this EP quite unique, but also very pleasant to listen to.

Cara Neir – Stagnant Perceptions

Tue, 31/01/2012

This is going to be a really short post text wise. I’ve been sitting on this for a while and wanted to do a little better presentation of these guys, but time is currently slipping by too fast for me and I just want to get this out there before I forget.

Cara Neir is a Dallas, Texas based duo who’ve been active since 2008 and released their second full-length last year. Titled Stagnant Perceptions it is today’s feature. Just under forty minutes of a Blackened mix of many Metals. There are the Black elements, Progressive elements, elements of ‘post’ rock / metal and even hints of hardcore-punkish type vibes. I’ve found it to be a very interesting listen time and again. So, jump ahead to stream the whole thing and get your own “name your price” download!

Minenwerfer – Nihilistischen

Sat, 21/01/2012

Ok, I’m just quickly typing this up otherwise it will roam my desktop for half a year and then the magic and the news are gone. Minenwerfer are a surprise, surprise American band, from California to be exact, who play a form of semi-NS Black Metal. This is as they sing about World War One Germany and not about the Third Reich. Their album Nihilistischen is bound to come out, and the guys have one single roaming the web.

A Minenwerfer was a German short-range mortar mostly used in the First World War (so much for Middle School History). Pretty interesting name, and more German names pop-up when skimming through their discography, which also features an extensive use of black and white pictures from the Second Reich-era. Interesting.

Vyrion

Sat, 21/01/2012

Australia has once again proved to be a fertile ground for growing top-notch Metal. Brisbane’s own Vyrion have been harvested by The Baboon to be served up fresh today. These Blackened Progressive Metallers have been at it for a few years and released their first full-length in the late summer of 2011. An intro and nine tracks that I assure you are incredible.

One Man Show (Pt. 6)

Thu, 19/01/2012

With the sixth issue of this series, we continue to stay true to the series’ title, aswe’re still dealing purely with One Man Shows. Still female perpetrators as of yet. If you’ve got a good suggestion, drop us a line!

Album Review: The Fallen Divine – The Binding Cycle

Fri, 13/01/2012

My naïve self always held Norway responsible for the world’s main supply of Black Metal. The same brain responsible for that belief thought up that then also pretty much every Norwegian Metal band would be a Black Metal band. But lately I’ve been proven wrong in my generalization quite a few times. Like by Aspherium and Okular rather recently.

But I have noticed that Progressive Death Metal outfits like these two often do add in a thick and acid splash of Black Metal darkness here and there. The same is the case for The Fallen Divine as Toreignimmortal has already commented when he pointed you towards the free streaming album these guys have released in late November. Following in his footsteps, I’ve been listening to this highly promising debut release a bit as well.

Voyage of Slaves

Tue, 10/01/2012

It’s been a lengthy day, so let me serve you a quicky and then hit the pillow. I came across this band from Western Kentucky some time ago, called Voyage of Slaves. Their Facebook page describes their music as ”Blackened Viking Zombie Thrash / Death Metal”, ”Death / Thrash Metal with a lemony, blackened twist” and “Old-school Death / Thrash Viking Zombie Metal”. I don’t claim to have listened to their full repertoire, but might I add that there’s a hint of Pirate Metal in there somewhere as well?

I’m fuckin’ about of course, but eventually the band does make a point: there are lots of styles and influences on display here. It’s Metal that’s both raw and unpolished, melodic, pounding and epic in the Folky sort of way. But there are also flat-out Black Metal patterns on occasion that scrape the skin of your back. All in all, nothing that the average Metalhead wouldn’t be appreciative off.

Goatwhore – Collapse In Eternal Worth

Mon, 09/01/2012

The Almighty GOATWHORE have readied their newest assault on humanity for a February release. It is to be titled Blood For The Master and will no doubt be an excellent album. This is evidenced by the first song released in advance, Collapse In Eternal Worth, which was brought to my attention via MetalSucks just moments ago. Click onward to hear this masterpiece of Metal fury!
