So I’m getting involved in some top secret Metal blogging business that is about to unfold within the next two months or so. It will be landscape changing and all that shit, but right now I’ll keep you in the dark and laugh at you silently. Did I tell you ‘Asshole’ is my middle name? Anyfuck, one thing leads to another and for some not to be disclosed reason we end up at Brent Petrie. Who the hell is Brent Petrie?
He’s a musician. And no, I have no idea if that name of his is short for Brent petroleum. In fact, there’s much else I don’t know about him and for that reason I’ll limit myself to mentioning what I do know. Like that he’s Canadian – I think – and that he is the sole crewmember of his project…, named Brent Petrie. Simplicity can be refreshing, can’t it?!

You may remember that some time ago CroOZza wrote a little piece on a Canadian formation named Karkaos. They delivered this immensely intense piece of Melodic Death Metal, with elements of darkness, Folk and pirate atmospheres, as well as a bunch of other stuff. Stuff’s definitely cool!
Anyway, one thing led to another and before we knew it we got into contact with Veronica Rodriguez, lead singer in the band, who got some of her band mates to agree to do an interview with us. That’ll follow in a bit, but first let’s present you with a brief overview of the band’s history, to give you some perspective.

After we reviewed Krokmitën’s 46-minute one-shot of Experimental Death Metal, Alpha-Beta, last week, it seemed like a good idea to shoot some questions over to the band and get some clarification on this very conceptual and freaky-as-fuck album from them. Turns out that when we hooked up with Simlev, guitarist, vocalist, main writer and main man, it wasn’t a good idea, but a great idea. To understand Alpha Beta you need to get back into the band’s history. And that’s precisely what we’ve extensively done. Though we haven’t forgotten the future either.
Honestly, this was one of the most pleasant and insightful interviews I’ve undertaken to date. Thanks to Simlev for spilling his guts and giving us an awesome interview!

In August, a Canadian band named Krokmitën released a 46-minute album they had worked on since 2005. Though a long time to cover just one record, it isn’t abnormal and wouldn’t have dropped my jaw. What did is the fact that this album is really just one ”song” and actually more than that. Because in addition to 46 minutes of Old-school-type Experimental Death Metal, the album features professionally made but freaky-as-fuck animations alongside.
Alpha-Beta is like an experience, I found, similar to a movie or play, even so when just listening to the music without the animations. In fact, that’s how I listened to the release the first four or five times and I can tell you that it’ll still achieve that effect that way.
We’ve got the full 46-minute bloodsucker streaming down below – in four pieces, because it’s too lengthy for YouTube – but you can also go to the band’s home page to download the full thing freely and legally.

To be honest, had I made a Best-of-2011 list myself and had I published this, as many others, in early December, Karkaos wouldn’t have been on it. But since I stumbled across their video for The Tempest, and immediately got the EP as well, they’ve secured their place on it. However, because I really don’t feel like actually making such a list, it’ll remain a purely hypothetical achievement. Still, I’d like to emphasize that this band has impressed me!
Karkaos is a young group from Montreal, Canada founded only two years ago. With their EP In Burning Skies, released late October, the band released its first output. The music video to The Tempest appeared already in September, but didn’t make it to my screen until just now. But from there it didn’t take long to grab me.

Visitor Simon was out in Montréal a while ago, where he discovered some new material that was to his liking. Bookakee is one of them, and they do Technical Brutal Death Cumsplatter Metal. Other than that the band consists of five guys and that they love to kill Super Mario on stage, my intel on these guys is pretty limited.
So, I’ll just proceed with giving you the tunes. First one is a song called Bookakee Blast, the first song from their first EP, released last June.

According to Misguided Aggression’s Facebook, their music has been described as ”combining the power of Pantera, the aggression of Lamb of God and the precision of Meshuggah”. I don’t know who said that, but the person had it spot fuckin’ on! The band from Woodstock, Ontario plays its material loud, chugging and aggressive, with staccato, syncopated and perhaps even polyrhythmic riffage.
Their material isn’t particularly accessible, but let me tell you, once you get into it, it just absolutely mashes your brain to pulp. Flood the Common Ground (2011) is the band’s follow-up to their 2009 debut Hatchala. From that, we’ve got some face melting lined up for you after the jump.

Canada’s five-piece Death Metal outfit Blood Drunk are a hard bunch to gather info on. What we do know is that they don’t sound like the Children of Bodom album that shares their name, they have a female vocalist that can hang with the big boys and they have one album, titled Machine Made Flesh, that is available for free download at their Bandcamp page.

I actually got a press release of this, more than a month ago. It was well done, containing everything you need as a publisher and which pisses you of if you have to go look for when it’s not included. You know, links to all of the band’s social media pages, a proper-sized pic, links to YouTube videos. There’s nearly nothing left to do, except write the article.
And I reward this kind of care and attention by completely ignoring them for more than a month. What kind of goddamn turd of a human being am I?! Well, a smelly one. And a busy one.
I guess what matters is that I see what’s wrong with it and that I still post about them now. Because, what am I actually jabbering on about? It’s Beyond Creation, a Canadian Progressive / Technical Death Metal band. They hail from Montreal and have been together since 2005. It wasn’t until April of this year that their efforts came to fruition though, because that’s when they released their debut record The Aura.

The other day TNOTB had a post featuring Kittie’s new video for the song We are the Lamb from their just released album, I’ve Failed You. That song inspired me to listen to the iTunes previews of every song on the album. After two listens to each preview I bought the album. Now, I was a fan of their debut, Spit, when it came out in ’99, though partially ’cause of the novelty of a Metal band of teen girls. I don’t listen to Spit anymore but I do occasionally listen to the follow-up, Oracle. I sampled some tunes from their next three albums but didn’t find anything to convince me that Oracle wasn’t their best, until now.
