Remember some 4 months ago, when we focused on a bunch of angry Scots forming a band called Achren and playing a musical flavor they’ve termed Blood Metal? We briefly mentioned the then imminent release of their live DVD recorded at Bloodstock Open Air 2010. Well guess what: it’s out and they baptized it Impaled at Bloodstock-Open-Air 2010.
The official press release is this: “Scottish Blood Metallers Achren have released their debut Live Concert DVD entitled ‘Impaled at Bloodstock-Open-Air 2010.’ Produced in conjunction with UK based Darkbox Films, the DVD features their whole award winning Bloodstock performance from the New Blood Stage at last year’s festival, band biography, photo galleries and preview recordings of their upcoming debut album.”
To clarify, the band’s full performance consisted of 7 blood spilling tracks, together measuring about half an hour, which are then all found on the DVD. We’ve got the performance of the title giving track lined up for you after the break, from which you can judge the intensity of the audio blood bath.
Last Saturday Byrd came up with an awesome little post featuring Deicide live, a kick-ass performance with the intensity of a cluster bombardment. He found the track on Earache Record’s channel on a site called MUZU.TV. I scouted that out for you a bit and turns out there’s more lengthy ear raping material to be found.
For example, there’s a full live performance of The Haunted on there. According to the description below the video it’s at the Alaska Blitz Club in 2000. I have no fuckin’ clue, and neither does Google. I’ve got a pretty sneaky suspicion that intel’s wrong. I see some Japanese-looking people in the audience, so what I think this is, is the full Live Rounds in Tokyo album, which came out at the end of 2001, edited with some documentary type pieces about the band. Find the fucker after the jump.
I’ve just found this full-length live show of Deicide playing at The Rescue Rooms. I have no idea where that is, so if you know please enlighten us. This is from the Earache Records website and I can’t tell how long they plan to keep it available, so we’re going to plant it right here for you for as long as it’s good for! Without further adieu, DEICIDE!!!
Update: NCS contributor Andy Synn has informed us that The Rescue Rooms is a venue in Nottingham, UK.
Got a line last night from a dude named Cancerous Chris from a band named Cancerous Womb. I like alliterations like that. What Cancerous Womb, hailing out of Edinburgh, Scotland, does, is serve it to you Brutally – that’s right, with a capital fuckin’ B. It also seems to do so purely in a live setting, as I’ve not been able to find any releases from these guys yet. I guess that’s fine, as they’ve only been a band since about two years now. In any case, decided to quickly do a quicky on them!
Judging from the intensity of the few live vids that I’ve been viewing on their YouTube channel, this isn’t really material for studio albums. This is material for live shows, so it can tear your fuckin’ head off and leave you as a big fuckin’ fountain of blood. Their songs are arse-grindingly loud Death Metallic, with a never ending storm of drum kicks and blasts, riffing that’ll instantly kill your dog and quick leads to finish him off if, for some reason, he doesn’t die straight away (maybe you’ve got a fat Rottweiler). Oh, and yeah, there’s also an angry Scotsman! Very angry in fact.
The Baboon has been missing Baltimore, Maryland’s Misery Index until now. Many of you may already be familiar with their Deathgrind material but if you’re one who’s not then there’s no better time than now to get acquainted. I’ve lined up some career spanning samples for you.
In France, there’s a highly progressive Death Metal band called Eryn Non Dae. Now the French are good at making Metal that’s original, at least that’s the impression I get time and time again. Gojira, Misanthrope or Hypno5e are great examples of this, and they are just a fraction of what’s there.
Eryn Non Dae is another such band. The term ‘progressive’ isn’t by far doing them justice. I called it trippin’ before, but really what I meant is that Eryn Non Dae’s music is fuckin’ awesome! Definitely, it’s weird. To say the least. Batshit mental more likely. But have you ever heard a bass intro this cool – if so, it’s gotta be that Misanthrope song I linked to above?!
If you found that intriguing or if perhaps you’re equally mental and that just made complete sense to you, here’s the band’s website. Go read/watch!
[After yesterday's part 1 of the report on my night out @ The Cave in Amsterdam, now's the time for the second half, in which we discuss the band I missed, as well as the night's main act: Ingraved]
Just a week ago I posted a review of my Italian friends from Ingraved. Friday night they played a show right in fuckin’ Amsterdam, as I already mentioned in the review! Obviously I couldn’t let the chance to see these guys live pass by, so after the Friday afternoon beers at work I took a subway train and then a thirty minute walk to the venue right in the center of Amsterdam. I had left my car at home that morning, so I didn’t need to drunk-drive home after the show. Smart thinking, don’t you agree (I’m quite proud of it)?!
[Note: because I prefer to keep things readable and don’t like boring my readers to death with stories of indefinite lengths, I’ve chosen to cut this report into two pieces. The second part, featuring the Ingraved experience will follow tomorrow.]
The show was to start somewhere around half past nine, ten-ish – you know how it goes with Metalbands and starting on time – in a small Amsterdam place called the Cave. With the work beer session ending at about seven and the trip taking about an hour and a half, I paid the €5.- entrance fee and walked in at about 8:30, when there were only still a few people inside. It was a small but cozy place in a basement of a typical Amsterdam canal house on the Prinsengracht.
On Tuesday the 23rd of November – sorry for the delay – I made a four hour trip to Darmstadt – near Frankfurt – to be a live witness of the concerts of Threat Signal, Raunchy, Sybreed, M.A.N. and In Cold Blood. With a load of luck I managed to get there in time, because the trains had some extreme delays once again.
Before you wonder: I would have happily added some proof pictures to the post, but for some fuckin’ reason my mobile’s camera decided not to function that night. I have added some videos though, including some of the actual concert – with abominable sound quality, but giving a great indication of the intensity of the shows – uploaded by other concertgoers!
On Saturday, October 23, I made the 100+ mile trip from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Black Label Berzerkus tour. The tour features Black Label Society, Children of Bodom, Clutch and 2Cents. Zakk Wylde of B.L.S. and Alexi Laiho of C.o.B. are two of my son’s favorite guitarists and since his birthday was the day after the concert the timing couldn’t have been better (or the excuse for me to go!).
Read on for a sample of music from these bands and some of my thoughts on them aswell.
