Another one by the band that’s on fire: In Flames. This is from when the band was only about four years old, from the Black Ash Inheritance EP, containing four old-school In Flames tracks, which are among their best tracks if you ask me. This one’s titled Goliaths Disarm their Davids.

Whattayasay about some German speedy power metal? Blind Guardian are masters at it, and have been since 1986, making them proper pioneers. Their At the Edge of Time album was released just last week and features A Voice in the Dark.

Illdisposed – Like Cancer

AS found us another one, this time from Denmark, the town of Aarhus to be exact. Illdisposed is certainly a name that’ll ring bells. These slightly industrial Death Metallers started out in 1991 and have a long list of releases behind their name. The Prestige (2008) features the track Like Cancer.

S.O.D. – Kill Yourself

In 1984 Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian formed a crossover/thrash side project called Stormtroopers of Death, known affectionately as S.O.D.. Kill Yourself is off of their first of two studio albums titled Speak English or Die.

Massacre – Dawn of Eternity

There are many a band named Massacre but only one formed in sunny Florida in 1984 as a power/speed metal band morphing into a Death Metal style after a few years. Dawn of Eternity is from their 1991 full-length debut: From Beyond.

Acheron – I Am Heathen

After forming in 1988 the pioneering American blackened Death Metal band Acheron split up in May of this year. The Final Conflict: The Last Days of God is their last release of many and holds the song I Am Heathen.

Tiamat – Whatever That Hurts

Some classic Swedish metal. Tiamat, formed in 1989, went from Death Metal to a more gothic, atmospheric angle of attack. Whatever That Hurts is found on 1994′s Wildhoney and already moves in the realm of atmospheric metal. Brilliant piece of music!

Revenant – Ancestral Shadows

Some thrashy Death Metal from Revenant, an American band lasting from 1986 until some time in the 2000s. These guys only managed one full-length among three EPs and five demos during their time. That 1991 album Prophecies of a Dying World contains Ancestral Shadows.
