Teratoma – Take Two of These (Call Me in the Morning)

A neat little press message dropped in my mailbox in early January, from a Detroit-based band named Teratoma. That’s “Ter-a-to-ma: a tumor consisting of different types of tissue, as of skin, hair and muscle, caused by the development of independent germ cells.” Stuff like that makes me hungry for breakfast! The band uploaded its first music video in September 2010 and I’ll serve it up for you today.

I’m short on time, so I’ll just quote: “Formed in the spring of 2008, Teratoma is a groovy, ever evolving metal sound scape of surreal narratives. Five multi-influenced individuals collaborating to create a sinutal opus of tales and legends. Crafting power and imagination to present an invention of compelling vehemence. We are the captains navigating this vessel and these songs our log, our stories, our savage memoirs.”

They participated in a Battle of the Bands event somewhere and won the prize. The money they made was put into the recording of what you’re about to hear, plus the other three songs on their debut Personatropolis EP. Currently, work is performed on a 2011 album release.

To describe their music, the band makes use of the term “sin-u-tal: an epic clash between a sound that is both sinister and brutal”. Pretty accurate. In layman’s terms, this would be slightly technical Death Metal. Gives me a bit a Deathcore feel too, which is primarily due to the use of those chords of the Devil. It’s covered in groove sauce, as well as aggression gravy, so remove any breakable objects from your immediate surroundings, up the volume and go mental.

Should you seek more info and music, here’s where to go.
