The Sacrificed – III

The Sacrificed is one of those bands with which I don’t know whether I like them or not. I picked some of their songs from different samplers, since their name seemed to be big in the Christian world. For some time I couldn’t be bothered with it, but when news came out of their upcoming album III, I picked out their song Offended and started to listen. Now, this song is supposed to be on that album, but apparently I had it already a year the before was out. Now a year later label Roxx Records released another song, called Falling. Like Offended, this song actually surprised me, and makes III a very promising album.

The Sacrificed are an American Heavy Metal band from Florida, who have been around since 2005. With their album’s The DaVinci Hoax (2007), 2012 (2010) and now III, they seem to be taking their time in order to make an album. Style-wise they seem to be taking a Heavy Metal approach, with a very big splash of Modern sounds incorporated, which makes for a very nice, and enjoyable listening-experience.

So today, I’ll simply serve you two songs, in awaiting for the new album. In the meanwhile check out the band’s Facebook page.

Damn, I like this dude’s voice. Kinda Iced Earth-y in that first track. Too bad the clearly understandable lyrics ruin it for me. :(

I never listen to lyrics anyway, so I haven’t noticed. But what is it they’re singing about that puts you off?

The whole christianity thing. I don’t really listen to lyrics either most of the time, but I do hear them, especially with a clean vocal. I’ve mentioned before how my personal “brand” of atheism aligns closely with LaVeyan satanism and I’ve developed an automatic translation of satan and satanic themes as representative of general adversarialism to all religion, but I have no system, or desire for one, to digest christian themes. In addition, I’ve never heard a christian band that was so unique that there’s not a real Metal band to listen to for the same musical effect. I guess that makes me some sort of closed-minded asshole. :P

Well, as a music-fan, I’m happy your put off by the Christian lyrics, rather than by the opinion that Christianity and Metal do not go together.

As a Christian I get your point, and here’s where my theology-self kicks in (sorry if I sound preachy, just want to share this). You say you’re able to kind of convert any form of Satanism into a general message against religion, with which you’re fine. Perhaps it’s the general Christian (read: non-human/natural) attitude of submission, repentance and forgiveness that doesn’t fit into your world view.

You know what I like about both of you? That you two can be on either end of a continuum on this topic and still don’t feel the urge to swear each other dead. I think the world would be a lot more fun if more people would be like that.

  6. byrd36 Says:

    @ T: I think you’re on target about the world view. ;)

@ Niek: Yeah, my issues are with religion as a whole. I try not to hold religious difference against individuals unless they are extremist / intolerant.

@Niek, Well, music binds I guess. Cool that you like both of us :P
